Certificates of Veterinary Inspection
Texas is going electronic!
The Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) will begin to phase out the sale and acceptance of paper certificates of veterinary inspection (CVIs) according to the timeline below.
- January 1, 2026: TAHC will no longer accept paper CVIs for imports. TAHC will require all import CVIs, for interstate movement into Texas, to be electronic.
- February 1, 2026: TAHC will no longer offer online ordering of paper CVIs.
- June 1, 2026: TAHC will no longer offer paper CVIs for purchase.
- January 1, 2027: TAHC will no longer accept paper CVIs for imports or exports. TAHC will require all interstate and intrastate CVIs to be electronic.
Important: To purchase Certificates of Veterinary Inspection, veterinarians must provide a valid Texas license number and an active Category II accreditation number. To check your accreditation status, please contact a USDA Accreditation Coordinator at 512-383-2404 or d4txnvap@usda.gov.
Ordering Options
TAHC Electronic CVIs
- Create a TAHC eCVI account and order on the TAHC eCVI web application.
- TAHC eCVIs must be purchased one at a time.
- TAHC eCVIs must be completed at the time of purchase.
- TAHC eCVI price is $7 + a non-refundable Texas.gov convenience fee that covers payment processing and the maintenance of the Texas.Gov infrastructure.
- Payment accepted: credit card.

Veterinarians may purchase health certificates for pets/companion animals by contacting the Texas Veterinary Medical Association at 512-452-4224.
